One person CAN make a difference!

This isn't a poem, but it is a true story. Yesterday when I went to work I opened my cash drawer and took it to a side counter to count it in. When I went to the side counter I found a ladies wallet laying there. One of my front end managers was nearby so I told her I was going to look in the wallet. All that was in the wallet was some id and photos and receipts, but I discovered that the wallet belonged to a coworker. I called personel and the personel manager called the Associate to let her know that her wallet was there. The Associate called me and in a frantic asked me if her money was still in the wallet. I looked very carefully but had to tell her no, there was no money. She was crying terribly because she had just cashed her check. Her wallet was in her coat jacket and hanging in the break room at work, meaning that someone working with us stole from her. She was crying so bad I told her, now don't you worry, I'll take up a collection and get your money for you. I don't know if she believed me or not, but taking up a collection is exactly what I did. When I went to break I had already collected over $80.00. As it so happened the Associate came to the store while I was on break and was with one of our loss prevention Associates when she came by the break room. I saw her and called to her. She came in, and I handed her the money, and then told her I would collect the rest before the day was over. She was crying profusely and hugged me so hard, I wanted to cry too. I really had to bite my lip. After my break, I took my baggie and went the long way back to the part of the store where I work, collecting money from the Associates as I went. Word spread quickly and people came up to me giving me money for our Associate. Within the next half hour my coworkers came through and I had collected her paycheck back for her. I am so proud of the people I work with....and it was truly humbling and heartfelt to be able to give my coworker the money that was taken from her. She was so greatful and could not believe how much everyone cared about her. She is a mother of four children and there is no way that I could not step up to the plate and help her. It was the right thing to do. One person CAN make a difference, no matter how great or how small. If you think you can't contribute to the world, then it's because you haven't tried. I am ill. I have an incurable disease and I'm in alot of pain. It's difficult for me to work. I'm not going to die from this disease as it is not a fatal disease, but none the less it causes me difficulty. But if someone like me with my own problems can make a difference in this world, then there is no excuse....so can you!
