If the Sea Birds Could Cry

I bask in the sea breeze and sunlight
Drenched in freedom take flight
Soar 'ore the ocean of blue
Embracing joy, caressing the dew.
As angels' anthems fill my breast
I gently glide 'ore glistening crests
'Tis such a peaceful lot for me
Born a sea bird, born and free.
Safely secure and knowing no harm
Unaware of the coming desert storm,
Where radiant rainbows spread unshackled before
And gentle raindrops fell to the shore
So much beauty to see how could there be anymore?
Now is destroyed. Now there is war.
Suddenly the splendor of the life I've know
Awakens and shatters, destroying my home
There are bursts of explosions
And trampled sod.
Humans are dying.
Where is God?
Anxiety heightened in my tiny heart
Why did all this destruction start?
Tranquil no more from shore to sand
Smoke and fire fill the land.
My choking lungs can breathe no more
I must fly away to a safer shore
But wearied wings have soon to rest
Upon black-satined oiled crests.
Where once I raptured it's soothing balm
The oceans' embracing, strong, yet calm
Now fools have blackened sea and soil.
'Tis poisoned now with useless oil.
As the current takes me out to sea
I hope to cleaner waters be
I fantasise this is just a dream
My weakened body fresh and clean
Where skies are blue and glowing sand
Is all that ever filled this land
But my heart is so weary that I cannot cry
Never I'll wing 'ore billowed sky
Never again the chance to be
Born a sea bird, born and free
For now life's fleeting one last sigh
Fantasy destroyed.
I will die.
