But for the grace of God

Today I went to get a new hair do. Then I did some shopping. As a reward to my son who drove me, I treated him to lunch at a place called Del Taco. It's basically a fast food Mexican resturant but they also sell burgers and fries.

As we were eating our food a dirty, homeless man came in. He wandered around the resturant not bothering anyone. You could tell that he was so drunk he didn't even probably know where he was. He went in to the children's play area for awhile and came out carrying a yellow wet floor sign, which he placed by our table. He didn't look at us or anything. People were watching him, including us.

He walked out the door and stood there for alittle while. A young man was looking at him and rolling his eyes at me in discust.

I finished my food and told my son to wait a minute. I went to the door and said, "Hey are you hungry?" He said yes he was. I said, well come on in, what would you like to eat? He asked for a beef burrito, fries and a mountain dew, which I paid for and told the cashier to give him the change, which she did.

I then went to leave the resturant to come home. I started crying and my son said, "Why did you buy him some food?" I told my son that I felt that I was supposed to do it. And that sometimes I feel that we are tested in this life and that I was being tested to see if I could be compasionate toward a man in such obvious terrible condition.

I don't know his name but at least I know for now he is not hungry and I know that I did the right thing.

The young man that was rolling his eyes in discust at that man....well, maybe he will do the same for someone in need one day.

For it is but for the grace of God that we are not in that condition.
